Security in retirement - Having Insurance
For a good feeling of security, you will have insurances. Your house should have buildings insurance (compulsory if you have a mortgage) to cover you against fire, and maybe things like subsidence and floods. When you travel abroad, in Europe you can get some cover free of charge, but generally here too it is best to have travel insurance. As you approach retirement, life insurance seems less relevant, and gets expensive, whereas health insurance (outside the NHS) seems more relevant but less affordable! Whether other forms of insurance are worthwhile is up to you, but generally insurance on appliances you have bought is considered very poor value, and not recommended.
