Retire to Southend?
Southend is an excellent choice for retirement living, with good quality housing, excellent transport links to London, and good shopping facilities.
You are close to the sea, or at least the Thames estuary, so there is a seaside feel, with the long pier. But a sea view there isn't worth paying for, as mostly it is a featureless expanse!
