Where to retire to?
Making your decision is one of the hardest you will ever make, and that's why many people don't take the risk and stay where they are too long. You'll want to think of nearness/transport to shops, to family and hospitals etc. Schools won't be of interest, unless maybe for avoiding them! The advantage of moving is that you choose a location and house for your retirement lifestyle, for example if you plan to use public transport more. Moving can let you downsize and release money for spending, with greater flexibility that many equity-release schemes. The disadvantages are of course the cost and the disruption, and the risk that you won't like the new area, and will have to do it all again!!
